The picture below is of the building at 709 Texas Street.
The brown paper cover of the building door certainly detracts from the great window mural.
But what is much, much worse are the holes in the facade above the window and the door.
These holes are like broken decayed front teeth in a mouthful of pearly whites.
The 700 block of Texas--the last block before First Church--is filled with remodeled storefronts on both sides of the street. This block is the best testament to building recycling in all of downtown.
But then, there is 709 Texas sticking out like a sore thumb.
The building owner is Drayden Dunn.
He is on the executive committee of the Downtown Development Authority.
He was recently named as one of the Shreveport Chamber's 40 under 40.
Dunn is the vice chair of the Shreveport Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce.
His wife Brittney is listed as the past chair on the chamber's website.
One can only wish that Dunn would take as much pride in his 707 Texas Street Building as he obviously does in his civic involvement. True leaders lead by example and not by resume entries.
