Stacy Brown is the long-time Executive Director of The Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau (SBCTB) which was renamed in 2023 as "Visit Shreveport-Bossier." (VSB)
The trade name VSB was registered with the Louisiana Secretary of State on Aug. 8, 2023, by SBCTB. This was accomplished despite the fact that the SBTCB has been in an inactive voluntary status since 2005.
Getting information out of Brown is like asking the Pentagon to release the codes to activate nuclear weapons. She routinely ignores public records requests by this writer, and when she does reply her answers are vague and misleading.
As is her practice Brown gave an end of the year "dog and pony show" presentation recently to the Caddo Commission and the Shreveport City Council. Most likely she did the same for the Bossier City Council and the Bossier Police Jury--or will do so by year end.
The PowerPoint presentation was fast paced with more than 20 slides that were difficult to see much less read. Smooth as ever, Brown glossed over most of the information with the spin of a well-polished, professional bureaucrat. Brown did not provide a copy of the presentation to the elected officials, much less administrative staff… She refused to provide a copy to this writer despite a public records request.
One of her points touted this area as a team travel sports destination. This comment ignored the findings of a report paid for by the VSB by Huddle Up Group. This report has not been released to this writer despite a request, much less to other players in the tourism market such as public officials on both sides of the river. After obtaining a copy of it, I have published SettleTalk columns on the report.
Seemingly, Brown has the attitude of a Queen Bee who flits around with special privileges with no real accountability to the public. Unfettered, she can build her kingdom in many ways, like hiring a director for a rebooted Film & Entertainment Commission. Maybe Brown believes this addition will be the lynchpin to get Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson to actually do something in Shreveport.
Brown is a constant at press conferences on coming events, usually citing overblown economic impact numbers that defy logic. But it makes for good press and provides Brown with an aura of invincibility for accountability.
