DOWNTOWN SHREVEPORT WILL SOON HAVE ANOTHER EMPTY BUILDING

The City of Shreveport owns the building at 401 Texas Street which formerly housed the Pioneer Bank building Currently the city's Community Development Department occupies a portion of this building--but not for long.

The Shreveport City Council approved a resolution at its meeting yesterday authorizing the mayor to execute a lease at One Texas Centre located at 415 Texas Street for this city department. One Texas Centre is just  a hop, skip, and jump from the Pioneer Bank building.

The lease is for 65 months at a monthly rental of $16,862 plus a prorate payment of operating expenses for the building. The Community Development Department will relocate to this building, occupying 16,682 square feet on the first and second floors.

The Pioneer Bank building is much larger than the needs of Community Development. The City plans to declare the building to be surplus and offer it for sale at the appraised value.

Since Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson wants to rent Expo Hall, maybe he could be enticed to buy this edifice. Its fabulous atrium and smartly decorated executive offices could be the perfect place for Jackson to have a downtown headquarters.
