HOW MUCH MONEY WILL LIVING WAGE ORDINANCE COST CADDO PARISH?

Last Thursday, the Caddo Commission passed a Living Wage Ordinance affecting vendors contracting with Caddo Parish.

Effective January 1, 2025, vendors subject to the ordinance must pay their employees a minimum of $15 per hour.

Here are the particulars:

1. Businesses that employee 16 or more employees are subject to the ordinance;
2. The minimum of $15 per hour is for all hours worked on Parish projects;
3. The requirement applies to all contracts with the Parish for $25,000 or more;
4. Contracts required by Louisiana law to be publicly bid are excluded.

The ordinance passed on a 7-4 vote. Republicans John Atkins, Ed Lazarus, Chris Kracman and Grace Ann Blake voted against the ordinance.

Over 140 cities and counties across the country have adopted living wage ordinances, and Caddo Parish joins Orleans Parish in the state of Louisiana.
